A bit of information about me...
as a child growing up in Knoxville, Tennessee, I was fortunate to be born into a family of antique lovers, party planners and givers and avid readers -- therefore, it seems as if every childhood experience taught me to appreciate history, beauty, and love and excitement of life.
I began my company, Sharp Surroundings, Interior & Exterior Decorating, with the enthusiastic support of my husband, Tom, and our ten-year-old son, Wiley. I have thoroughly enjoyed building, designing, and decorating the home in which we now live here in Colorado.
 My family is active in our church, Black Forest Chapel. Tom and I are AWANA leaders of 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls, respectively. My other volunteer efforts in the community (at present) extend to my son's school, Monument Academy Charter School.
A bit about my education...
In 1985, I graduated from The University of Tennessee in The College of Communications, with a major in Advertising, and a minor in Marketing.
Following graduation, I worked for Lamar Outdoor Advertising in Knoxville, and in early 1986, I moved to Denver to work as a flight attendant for United Air Lines. After 13 years with United, I decided it was time for me to be "more grounded", so I left United in order to be more accessible to Tom and Wiley.
When Wiley started school, I began my marketing career with The Navigators. I was fortunate to go to work at Glen Eyrie Castle and Conference Center in the Marketing Department. I departed Glen Eyrie to join Jamey Nordby’s sales and marketing team with The Cherry Creek Mortgage Company. However, as I worked alongside realtors, I quickly became aware of the lack of color and warmth in many of the homes that were being sold! Many were in need of color and re-vitalization. I knew that I could make an impact on the re-sale value of many of the homes and I was positive that my skills and background in marketing and my design knowledge would assist me in starting my own decorating business.
Some information about my background...
My mother is a former educator, with a Home Economics degree in Textiles and Clothing from the University of Tennessee. She took her three girls on "grand adventures", traipsing into every fabric store, flea market, and antique store in East Tennessee.

My father, who loves books and the Sunday comics, also loves birds and gardens; for my dad, the outdoor spaces are as important as those indoors! Through experimentation, I have discovered what perennials will grow best in different regions of the country. My dad showed me how transplanting trees, plants and shrubs can easily be accomplished in order to change the aesthetics of the exterior of a home.

Additional information about my family...
I have two amazingly talented sisters. Martha, who resides in Knoxville, and Malinda, who lives in Atlanta. Both of my sisters have unique talents and abilities in the design arena -- Martha is an extremely gifted oil painter, a rosarian and gardener, as well as being an accomplished decorator in her own right.
Malinda is the proprietor of msharp designs, an interior decorating company servicing the southeast in Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida.
